Frequently asked questions

In the Graduate Certificate in AI Strategy, you will build foundational capability in AI, with a focus on practical application and strategic impact. The curriculum develops confidence across core areas of AI fluency, responsible practice and implementation.

You will learn to:

  • Apply foundational AI knowledge to evaluate tools and their real-world implications.
  • Design and communicate strategic uses of AI for diverse organisational contexts.
  • Apply ethical, governance and responsible AI principles to decision-making.
  • Develop either technical skills in programming or explore the conceptual and philosophical dimensions shaping AI.
  • Build confidence to engage with AI initiatives, moving from awareness to informed, strategic action.

We offer six start dates throughout the year, meaning you can begin your program at a time that suits you. Our 100% online learning model is structured around seven-week study blocks, known as hexamesters. This flexibility allows you to progress through your courses consecutively or skip a study period if unexpected work or life commitments arise.

You should expect to dedicate at least 20 hours per week to your studies. To help you balance your education with professional and personal commitments, you will study just one course at a time during each seven-week block. If you ever need help managing your schedule, our dedicated Student Advisors are always available to help you stay on track.

The demand for AI strategy and governance spans almost every industry, from finance and healthcare to cyber security and government. As a graduate, you can explore emerging roles such as AI Project Coordinator, AI Strategy Analyst or Ethical AI Advisor. This program ensures you are ready to lead digital transformation projects, manage enterprise risk and deliver measurable return on investment in a rapidly evolving job market.

The best AI certification program moves beyond basic technical training and aligns with your career goals. If you want to lead AI initiatives, the Graduate Certificate in AI Strategy at UNSW is a premier choice. As a globally recognised university, our program stands out by offering robust courses that build strategic capability, rather than just tool proficiency.

Investing in the right AI certificate online can deliver a significant return on investment. A formal university qualification prepares AI leaders for strategic roles, some of which offer large salaries. Unlike basic tutorials, our program equips you with the governance, ethics and strategic skills that employers value, making your investment highly rewarding.

Not all AI certificate programs hold the same weight in the job market. While short courses offer a quick overview, they often lack the depth required for executive roles. A Graduate Certificate from a Group of Eight university, like UNSW, is globally recognised and highly respected by industry. Our 100% online programs signal to employers that you possess both the technical literacy and the strategic judgement to govern AI responsibly at an enterprise level.

There are many introductory options available if you are looking for a free AI certification course, however, free courses rarely provide the advanced governance frameworks, ethical design principles and strategic oversight required to lead digital transformation. To build market-ready skills and achieve a distinct competitive advantage, a formal postgraduate program is a career-defining investment.

The ideal certificate for artificial intelligence focuses on both technology and strategic management. While there are many AI programs available, the UNSW Graduate Certificate in AI Strategy is specifically designed to bridge the gap between technical potential and business performance. It is the best choice for professionals looking to drive innovation and guide teams through complex digital transformations.

Absolutely. You do not need a background in computer science to benefit from an AI certificate online. Many AI certificate programs are designed for business leaders and professionals looking to upskill. Our courses build your AI literacy from the ground up, allowing you to confidently evaluate and make AI decisions without needing to be a software engineer.

The best starting point provides a clear introduction to AI concepts and practical applications. Our program includes a dedicated AI Fluency course, which serves as a comprehensive introduction to artificial intelligence. You will learn key terminology, explore major capabilities and understand how to apply AI tools to enhance productivity and decision-making in your workplace.

When looking for AI short courses in Australia, professionals often weigh speed against long-term value. While typical short courses are fast, they may not provide the comprehensive frameworks needed to solve complex business problems. The UNSW Graduate Certificate in AI Strategy can be completed in as little as eight months. It offers the speed of a short program with the academic rigour, industry recognition and articulation pathways of a premium university qualification.

If you want to study AI in Australia and secure a leadership role, a formal degree is highly valuable. Our curriculum is actively reviewed by an industry council and taught by practicing experts to ensure you learn the most current, market-ready skills. Coupled with flexible payment options like FEE-HELP for eligible domestic students, the long-term career outcomes make this a smart, future-focused investment.

The most effective way to start is by combining theoretical knowledge with practical business application. Rather than just taking a basic introduction to artificial intelligence, you should look for programs that contextualise the technology within your industry. Our program offers an accessible introduction to AI, supporting you with dedicated Student Advisors to ensure your learning journey is clear, manageable and directly aligned with your career aspirations.

No, studying with UNSW Online does not make you eligible for a student visa, as all programs are delivered 100% online and can be completed from anywhere in the world. To be eligible for a student visa, you must enrol in an on-campus program that meets the visa requirements for studying in Australia.

No, you can study entirely online from your home country. UNSW Online programs are designed for flexible learning and do not require you to be in Australia. This means you do not need a student visa to apply.

Yes, international students can apply for UNSW Online programs, provided they meet the entry requirements. A student visa is not required or will be issued.

I think the strength of our Graduate Certificate in AI Strategy is that it deliberately connects current developments in AI to concrete business challenges – how organisations operate, compete and make decisions. It’s well suited to anyone who wants to develop both the practical skills and the critical perspective needed to use AI in a meaningful organisational setting.
